A tragedy among tragedies. The way it really happened. It was very hard there for the Jews. The Germans intended to make an example of them. Things didn’t happen at once, they happened slowly. Germans dedicated energy toward the destruction of the Jews. Whatever they promised were lies. Their hatred was blind. The inhumanity of man is beyond belief.
European Jews were stripped of their rights. They would tell us stories and we wouldn’t believe them. The stories were getting worse. Everyone yelling, “Jews, out! Jews out!” “We don’t need any Jews here!” They marched us out of the house. We had no idea where we were. The children were screaming they want to go home. It seemed like an eternity. They never gave us water or food. It was everybody to care for himself. Everything that meant anything in life were meant to be left behind. They didn’t even let us die when we wanted.
I’m sick of hiding. I won’t go to their gas chambers. I’m not going to become ashes. They’re not gonna take my soul.

This found poem is about hope. It talks about all the suffering and awful things that the Jews were put through in the first part of the poem. However, even through all of this, the Jews were able to have hope for a better life. They were determined to survive whatever they were put through and come out alive. They didn't want to lose what they were to the evils of the Nazis. With hope, they were able to survive through the sufferings of the Holocaust.
